Comer Cox Restoration Project
The Springfield Parks Foundation named Comer Cox as its signature project for 2011. Comer Cox Park
celebrates its 35th anniversary this year and as our signature project for 2011 we have partnered with
Lambert Custom Pools to design a kid-friendly Splash Fountain for the park. The fountain will be fully
programmable to keep the kids guessing on where the water is coming from next. To help maintain this
project once it is complete, Lambert Custom Pools has donated the labor for Spring start-up and Winter
shut-down of the fountain, along with periodic maintenance checkups. The design of the splash fountain
and construction details will be presented to the Springfield Park District for final approval in August,
with construction to begin soon after. The project will follow the precedence established with the
Washington Park renovations in that it will be managed by the Springfield Parks Foundation and funded
solely through private donations.
This project is the beginning of a long term renovation of the park. The Springfield Park District has
committed funds to upgrade the existing playground and renovate the picnic shelter in the main area of
the park. The Foundation is also working with local neighborhood associations to develop a “Friends of
Comer Cox Committee” which will help to designate needed improvements around the park and aid the
Park District in maintaining the park and the fountain. This partnership will help insure a safe, secure
environment for families to enjoy the park and foster future improvements for the park. For more
