Bocce Ball Tournament - Rescheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2006

The Springfield Parks Foundation is announce a new date for its second bocce ball tournament: Saturday, May 13 at Centennial Park (off West Wabash near Lenhart Road). Registration is still open for teams of four to participate in the tournament. Call 793-3207 for more information or visit the Foundation’s website at www.springfieldparksfoundation.org. A schedule will be posted for teams playing but generally the event begins at 10:00 a.m. and concludes at 3:00 p.m.

The Roman Cultural Society is helping promote this new Springfield tradition by preparing delicious sandwiches. You may purchase an Italian meatball or sausage sandwich or a hot dog. Chips, soft drinks and water will also be available. All proceeds benefit the Springfield Parks Foundation.

Popularized in Italy, bocce ball is a game for men and women of all ages and athletic abilities. The game is a distant cousin of bowling with fun and simple rules and strategies. Everyone is welcome even if you have never played the game. It is easy to learn! Bocce ball sets will be available for your use. Even if you don’t play this year, you can still come to the event and enjoy the festivities and food.
