The Park District has committed up to $230,000 toward Phase II construction which is estimated to be completed 45 days from start of construction. Construction will include: dredging and removal of silt up to 2 1/2 feet giving the entire upper and lower lagoon areas approximately 4-5 feet of depth shoreline restoration that will include erosion control plantings and cap stones for beautifi cation re-circulation from lower to upper lagoon through a pump system that will also include reactivating the old “trickle down waterfall” located east and south of the upper lagoon area, and other amenities.

The Springfield Parks Foundation has generously provided funding toward a new trail/path system around the lagoon which is to be made up of crushed limestone to provide natural beauty and a walking surface. Also included in this funding will be park benches in and around the area. The Springfield Park District appreciates the assistance and patience of the Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association. Phase III will include lighting, beautiful plantings and other amenities to beautify the area.

The centennial celebration committee continues to plan events to raise funds for the restoration project, including memorial brick sales for new paved areas around the lagoon.
