Jefferson Park Community Garden
The Springfield Parks Foundation and the Springfield Park District once again are partnering to provide the Jefferson Park Community Garden for the 2013 season!
Have you ever thought of having a small garden to grow fresh veggies or flowers to brighten your home? Well now you can without having to till part of your yard.
The community gardens are in Jefferson Park - near Harbauer and Washington in northwest Springfield. The plots get full sun and have a rich soil to grow in. The Park District has installed a water spigot to help get the gardens started and keep them going during the hot summer months. Each plot is now 10ft x 20ft and can be reserved for a nominal fee of $10 for the season. There are only 10 plots this season. In addition there are 2 demonstration plots - native plants from the Native Plant Society and a trac of fresh cut flowers - free for everyone to enjoy!
If a 10ft x 20ft plot is too much for you, find a friend to split the plot with and you both can enjoy the shared experience of checking on your garden on your daily walks! Research has shown that home grown tomatoes are tastiest!
